LEARN

LIGHT

India-351-Edit-2-Edit.jpg

The secret to getting studio-like results anywhere, without any lighting equipment, is knowing where to find great natural light around you, and how to take advantage of it.

In this section, I will show you where to find great natural light, in different weather conditions. In places that you wouldn't even think of.

Once you found a great light, you need to compose your images, to make them focused, memorable and well-balanced.

Here you will learn 5 composition techniques, which are most powerful for portraits. The ones that make the biggest difference, most often. Especially when you mix them together.

COMPOSITION

Great light & composition don't help much at all, if your subject is just standing there, with a blank stare. Which is what most people will do.

Here you will learn how to direct & pose people - and how to connect with them to bring out natural expressions, emotions and personality. And how to take candid portraits without being seen.

PRACTICE

Here you will see me working on location with a model - so that I can show you how exactly to use these techniques.

In the first module I will show you how to take studio-like portraits in your living room, and how to create a pitch-black background without any additional equipment.

INDOOR

In the second module, I will show you several ways to find fantastic natural light outdoors.

Then you will need to find someone who will pose for you for a couple of hours, so you can replicate all of this yourself.

REVIEW

Here I will show you how to select your best shots in the most efficient way, out of a thousand or so that you took in your practice session.

Then I will give you guidelines how to assess those best shots - so that you know what you are already doing well, and what to focus on going forward.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much time do I need to take this course?

The course includes:

  • 2 hours of videos

  • 3-4 hours of your own practice with someone posing for you

  • Selection & review of your best shots from that practice session

You can do all this in one intense day - as I do in my live trainings - or spread it over a few days, whichever better fits your pace and schedule.

What happens after the course ends?

You should continue practicing, to get more comfortable with using all these techniques.

You have lifetime access to the course material, so you can always go back and review the material in the future.

Does it matter what type of camera I have?

You need any DSLR or Mirrorless camera to apply the techniques that you learn in this course.

You also need a lens suitable for portraits, covering at least part of the following range:

- 70-120mm for full-frame camera

- 50-90mm for APS-C sensor

- 35-60mm for Micro Four-Thirds sensor

What if I have an older camera?

If you camera is older than 8-10 years, you will still get the same artistic quality of your portraits (light, composition, expression) - but the technical quality (sharpness, contrast, colours) will not be as good as with the newer cameras, especially in low light situations.

What if I'm a beginner?

To get the most out of this course, you need to know basic camera settings - Aperture, Shutter Speed, ISO, White Balance, Exposure Compensation, and Continuous Shooting. If you need help with any of these, you should first take a basic course to learn those. I will be creating on online course that covers these control in the next 2-3 month.
